As a rule, a fence post should go at least a third of its above-ground height into the ground, with a minimum of 600mm (2ft) whatever the height. Gate posts and corner posts take more strain and go deeper still. They are concreted in so the fence stays true for years.
Most domestic garden fences are a one to two day job. A small, level run in easy ground can be done in a day; a longer boundary, a slope, hard or rocky ground, or gates and corners will push it to two days or a little more. We give you a realistic timescale with the quote.
